Class cancelled/Operations suspended

UPDATE: Classes and campus operations will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Due to inclement weather affecting the Bryan-College Station area, Texas A&M University has cancelled all classes for Tuesday, Jan. 21. Additionally, all campus operations have been suspended. A decision about Wednesday, Jan. 22 will be made by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The mechanical engineering undergraduate program at Texas A&M University improved to sixth among public institutions and first in Texas, according to the recently released 2024 U.S. News & World Report Best College Rankings.

“We’re proud of the exceptional education our students receive at Texas A&M and the tireless efforts of our faculty to make it a reality,” said Dr. Guillermo Aguilar, James and Ada Forsyth Professor and department head of the J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering. “We firmly believe in the powerful impact our students make on the world after graduation. These rankings are a reflection of our combined dedication to equipping them with the tools necessary to face the challenges of tomorrow head-on.”

The mechanical engineering department improved one place in the overall ranking to 11th and one place among public mechanical engineering programs, improving from its previous number seventh ranking.

The department ranks seventh among public institutions for its graduate program, according to U.S. News and World Report, and was ranked first in the U.S. by ShanghaiRankings for 2022. This rank is based on various metrics to measure a university and program’s success, including research output, research influence, international collaboration, research quality and international academic awards.
