From an early age, Allen “Bud” Beene ’75 knew he wanted to be a civil engineer. From admiring large infrastructure projects that littered the Texas Panhandle to working a storied career in transit, bridges and roadways, he now hopes to provide financial support through the newly endowed Allen Bud Beene ’75 Endowed Scholarship.
From the beginning
Growing up in Amarillo, Texas, Beene was surrounded by vast highway systems that connected travelers — and locals — across the town and southwestern states. An impressionable Beene witnessed the impact transportation projects had on his and neighboring communities.
Having known engineers throughout his childhood, Beene was happy to choose Texas A&M University to further his education. Following his passion, he studied civil engineering and took part in student organizations dedicated to service and his field, such as the Xi Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega and the J.T.L. McNew Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Giving back
Reflecting on his time in college, and his own financial struggles, Beene understands the impact monetary support can have on a student. Now a professional engineer with the Parsons Corporation, he sees it as a chance to pay it forward.
“I wanted to give back because being an Aggie has made my career opportunities possible,” Beene said. “My mentors at Texas A&M, as well as my relationships with other Aggies, were critical in the decisions I made in my career.”
Beene has been fortunate to experience different corners of the world, having visited all seven continents and every county in the Lone Star State. But he still has an urge to see more.
Beene travels to Texas A&M football games, recently making the trip to South Bend, IN, to watch the Aggies defeat Notre Dame. He takes the idea of “once an Aggie, always an Aggie” with him on his adventures, never forgetting where he started.
How to give
Endowments supporting students in the college have an immeasurable impact on their education. If you are interested in supporting the College of Engineering and its departments or would like more information on how you can give, please contact one of our development officers.
