Students beginning their fourth semester as a general engineering program student (ENGE) will have a registration hold placed on their record until:
- Grades for the current semester are posted.
- The student has met the requirements for Entry to a Major (ETAM).
- The student has received and accepted an offer to an undergraduate engineering major.
ETAM Requirements Met
If ETAM requirements are met at the end of the fourth semester:
- A student must 1) have completed two engineering and two math and science courses at Texas A&M University from the approved ETAM coursework list with the grade of C or better, 2) have a Term GPA of a 2.0 or higher and 3) have a Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher in order to receive an offer from an engineering major. (NOTE: Receiving an offer to the major of the student's choice is dependent upon student performance and the department’s capacity.)
- College of Engineering departments will consider ETAM-eligible fourth semester General Engineering students after the conclusion of the ETAM holistic review.
- Once the student has received and accepted an offer, the registration hold will be removed.
ETAM Requirements Not Met
If ETAM requirements are not met at the end of the fourth semester:
- The student will be dismissed from the General Engineering program.
- Students dismissed from the General Engineering program will need to 1) submit a change of major and 2) be accepted into an engineering major or major outside of the College of Engineering in order for the registration hold to be removed.
- College of Engineering departments will consider ETAM-ineligible fourth semester General Engineering students after placing eligible students in a major.
General Engineering Probation Requirements Not Met
If General Engineering probation requirements are not met (i.e. CGPA is less than 2.0, TGPA is less than 2.0, failure to complete a course with a grade of C or better on the third attempt):
- The student will be dismissed from the College of Engineering and not be allowed to submit a change of major request within the College of Engineering.
- However, if a dismissal appeal is submitted and subsequently granted, students may submit a change of major request to a College of Engineering major.
Students will not be allowed to remain in the general engineering program beyond their fourth semester.
