Applicant/Participant Eligibility
- Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
- Minimum 3.0 overall GPA. Preference is given to students with at least a 3.25 cumulative/overall GPA.
- Major in engineering, or STEM-related curriculum.
- Have completed at least freshman year (30 credit hours) by end of spring semester.
- Graduate no sooner than December 2027.
Application Requirements
- Unofficial Transcript(s) — submit through application
- MUST upload unofficial college transcripts that reflect grades up to summer 2026.
- Texas A&M applicants should submit the unofficial transcript (PDF version) found on the Howdy portal.
- Personal Statement (minimum 500 words) — submit through application
- At the top, list the department for which you would like to be considered.
- What do you hope to gain from this experience, and what is/are your objective(s) in participating in a research experience/S-REU program?
- What are your career plans after completing your undergraduate degree?
- Describe any previous or current research experience.
- Describe your research area(s) of interests within your field/major.
- Provide any other relevant information (student organizations, leadership, employment, honors, awards, etc.) that will help the selection committee in their decision.

- 1 Recommendation Letter
- Recommendations should be provided by a professor or supervisor under whom you have studied, taught, worked and/or conducted undergraduate research. Your recommenders should be able to provide insight into your ability, potential and qualifications to succeed in a summer research program.

- Faculty Mentors
Faculty Mentor (for external applicants) — Although finding an Engineering faculty mentor at the time of application is optional for non-Texas A&M students, you are highly encouraged to research faculty members through department websites, communicate with them and mention an interest in working with them in your personal statement & application. Contact reu@tamu.edu if you have questions about this.
Faculty Mentor (for current Texas A&M students) — All current Texas A&M University - College Station students are required to find an Engineering faculty mentor at the time of application. Approval is required from the Engineering faculty mentor via the recommendation letter indicating the willingness to serve as your mentor and sponsor you during the duration of the summer REU program, should you be accepted.- The Engineering faculty mentor is the person that will be inviting you to participate in a research project in their lab and will be overseeing and managing the project and your tasks, as well as their graduate student assistants.
- When reaching out to Engineering faculty, you want to seek out those that you have interest in their research and potentially would like to work with them in the summer. Assistant and Associate professors can serve as a faculty mentor. Professors of Practice cannot serve as faculty mentors.

Review and Selection
All completed application packets will be reviewed by respective department selection committees. Final selections will be reviewed by the REU program.
