The Hagler Institute for Advanced Study at Texas A&M University brings scholars from other institutions to Texas A&M. Texas A&M selects Hagler Fellows based on professional accomplishments or recognition. Each year Texas A&M invites about 10 new Hagler Fellows. They perform research with Texas A&M faculty and graduate students.

Hagler Fellows are free to pursue their own research interests. They also collaborate in disciplinary and multidisciplinary research. Each Hagler Fellow affiliates with one or more of Texas A&M's graduate degree granting academic departments. The departments are housed in 17 colleges and schools.

Hagler Fellows are recruited for visiting appointments from three to 12 months. The 12 months may be spread over multiple years. The institute plays a role in keeping outstanding faculty-researchers. It also helps recruit quality faculty members and students. Ten of the Hagler Fellows have accepted permanent positions at Texas A&M.
