Program History and Mission
In the fall of 2023, the Texas A&M University College of Engineering created the Student Engagement for Academic Success (SEAS) program to provide students with opportunities to learn and develop as engineers and global leaders. SEAS fosters community for all Texas A&M engineering students, emphasizing retention and professional development for first-generation college students. For the fall 2023 semester, over 3,617 engineering undergraduate students identified as first-generation, meaning neither of their parents completed a bachelor's degree.
The SEAS program supports undergraduate engineering students by creating learning communities, designing high-impact educational experiences, and offering unique, relevant professional development opportunities that cultivate retention. SEAS seeks industry partners to financially support programming and/or scholarships promoting student success.
