Admission
Students are admitted to the Engineering Honors program on a competitive basis. The application requires information about the applicant, including the following:
For current status choice
- Incoming freshmen who haven't yet begun classes at Texas A&M choose "Incoming Freshman."
- Transfer students in their first semester at Texas A&M, thus without a cumulative GPA, choose "Transfer Student."
- All other applicants with a cumulative Texas A&M GPA or currently taking classes at Texas A&M choose "Current TAMU Student."
For academic performance, please include
- High school performance information (including high school transcript) - required for incoming freshmen.
- Unofficial transcript - required for current students.
Application required materials
- One recommendation form.
- Answers (500 words or less) to the three short-answer questions below:
- Tell us anything you would like us to know about you that we wouldn't get from the rest of your application. This could include obstacles you have overcome, something you are especially proud of that is not discussed elsewhere, or anything else you choose.
- Discuss a piece of engineering news in the last year that has affected your view on the need for a high-quality engineering education, and tell us why this has affected or reinforced your desire for an engineering education. You do not need to go into detail about this piece of news — a quick reference to the event will suffice. Spend the majority of your response on how this event affected your views.
- Thinking about your high school and/or college experiences, discuss 5 that you consider to be the most significant in preparing you to be successful as a student in the College of Engineering. (i.e., organizations, employment, service, recognition, etc.)
- An essay (1,000 words or less) on the prompt below:
- The skills that students gain from participating in undergraduate research are beneficial to their future careers, regardless of whether they pursue graduate school or enter industry when they graduate. The opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the classroom and make connections between theory and practice is invaluable. Students also gain critical thinking skills, can network more in-depth with faculty, and have the potential to reinforce essential skills, such as teaming and communication, through participation in undergraduate research. Participating in undergraduate research is also a requirement for students in the Engineering Honors program at Texas A&M. Please write an essay on why you think participating in undergraduate research could benefit your future career. Please also provide research topics that currently interest you.
- An electronic signature and statement of honor.
Students with questions about eligibility or the application process should email the Engineering Honors program.
