Engineering Honors (EH) students in the Industrial Engineering (ISEN) department must meet the academic and participation requirements listed below.
We have also included a list of features and curriculum notes for EH students in ISEN.
Academic Requirements
Students must earn at least 18 hours of honors credits (undergraduate honors courses with HNR prefix or graduate courses) in courses offered by the Colleges of Engineering or Arts and Sciences.*
*Any math or science course offered by the College of Arts and Sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, or statistics) can be used to fulfill EH requirements, as long as it is approved as part of the student's degree plan.
Your hours must consist of the following:
- At least 12 hours must be engineering credit hours (including honors ENGR courses plus honors courses from all departments or majors).
- No more than 6 hours of graduate courses registered for undergraduate credit.
- 6 hours of research (ISEN 491H)**
- ENGR 181H - 1 credit hour EH seminar course.

**491H hours can be taken at any time while in ISEN program.
- Work with Faculty Coordinators to discuss your interests and connect with ISEN faculty members who would best be able to guide you in your research as advisors/mentors.

Graduation requirements:
- Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Earn a GPA of 3.25 or higher in honors courses
- Receive no honor code violations
- Written deliverable: by graduation, must complete at least one of the following:
- Submit a report of the research for peer-reviewed publication.
- Complete a thesis with the Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS) Program.
- Submit a summative final report on the entire research experience (6 or more hours total) to research advisor(s) and track coordinators.
Participation Requirements
- Honors meeting: Meet with one of the EH-ISEN Department Coordinators during each academic year. Schedule via Navigate or email, depending on the coordinator you are meeting with.
- Activity: Participate in at least one EH activity each regular semester. Find events on the EH calendar webpage.
- Annual survey: Complete the EH survey (sent out via email) in May of each year.
Features of this Track
- Renewable academic scholarship: Students who have
active status in the ISEN track of Engineering Honors are eligible to apply for an annual scholarship from the ISEN Department. - Special honors faculty advisors: The ISEN Engineering Honors Coordinator serves as an advisor for the students in the Engineering Honors ISEN track and meets with each student in the program at least once during each academic year that the student is in residence on Texas A&M College Station campus. Additionally, each Engineering Honors scholar in the ISEN track will be assigned a faculty mentor after their first semester in the program based on their research and career interests.
- Other benefits: Engineering Honors Scholars in the ISEN track have priority for paid summer and academic year research internships, special opportunities to interact with departmental industrial partners who have internship and full-time employment opportunities, opportunities to be peer teachers, and access to travel funds to attend technical conferences.
Curriculum Notes
- Undergraduate research courses (ISEN 291H, ISEN 491H) and independent study courses (ISEN 285H, ISEN 485H) require prior approval in addition to the standard departmental procedures.
- Any 600-level ISEN course can be used for honors credit except for ISEN 681, ISEN 684, ISEN 685, ISEN 691.
- Engineering Honors Scholars may request to use 6 hours of ISEN 491H to replace two of the technical electives in the ISEN degree plan. This replacement requires prior approval.
