You probably have a lot of questions about embarking on a Texas A&M University global experience. With this page, we would like to address the three most frequently asked questions we get from students and parents and share additional resources.
Value
A priority for the Texas A&M University College of Engineering is “to prepare engineers, researchers and engineering educators to succeed in a diverse, globalized economy with a knowledge base that is growing exponentially.” Participating in a global opportunity allows a student to experience new places while meeting people from different cultures and diverse backgrounds. Students will take academic coursework in different countries while developing maturity, independence, global competency, and the critical interpersonal skills that employers and graduate schools are looking for.
Our graduates will launch into a professional career reflecting a more globalized workforce. Employers have told us they are looking for graduates who are not only academically successful but are also critical thinkers, problem solvers and students who consider diverse perspectives of complex engineering challenges, which are skills they will develop as they engage in a global experience.
Global opportunities have a smaller student enrollment compared to on-campus classes, allowing students to develop a great living, learning community and strong friendships with fellow Aggies in the programs and to get to know their faculty leaders on a deeper level. This also allows our faculty leaders the flexibility to customize their class schedules and delivery methods to meet the needs of their students.
Cost
The Halliburton Engineering Global Programs office offers affordable international opportunities year-round, lasting from one week to an entire year and beginning as early as freshman year. All Texas A&M College of Engineering global program coursework is taught in English. Classes taught abroad cover the same academic content and learning outcomes as courses taught on campus. Credit-bearing global programs often satisfy department-level required coursework, directed and technical electives, minors or other graduation requirements. With the right amount of planning, a global opportunity can be fully integrated into any student’s engineering degree plan without delaying graduation or sacrificing summer internships.
Safety
The Halliburton Engineering Global Programs office is committed to the health and safety of all our students traveling abroad. We work in close partnership with the Texas A&M University Education Abroad Office and the Office of Risk, Ethics, and Compliance to ensure that our students are safe when studying in international locations. We work closely with our partners and choose fully vetted and insured international travel providers to help us implement our programs and to minimize any threats to the safety of all students overseas. The Texas A&M Education Abroad Office monitors an emergency 24/7 telephone and email address that students and parents can access in the event of an emergency. All students, while traveling abroad, are provided mandatory health and emergency insurance covering a wide range of emergencies, including injuries, hospitalizations and even mandatory evacuations.
