Admissions Deadlines and Requirements
Admission into the nuclear engineering graduate program is based upon many factors including GPA, letters of recommendation and the statement of purpose. Our graduate application committee meets periodically throughout the year to review applicants. Funding decisions are separate from admissions decisions and will be communicated through a departmental letter to the student.
Deadlines
Students seeking funding consideration must meet our internal departmental deadlines. All application materials must be completed by the stated deadline. Applicants are encouraged to submit documents to the admissions office four weeks prior to our departmental deadlines to accommodate for processing time.
All in-person and online nuclear degrees and certificates:
- Fall 2025 semester: January 30, 2025
- Spring 2026 semester: September 15, 2025
Note: All Letters of Recommendation have the same submission deadline as the application.
Admission Requirements
- EngineeringCAS online application: When searching for our program applications, use the filter to select Texas A&M University under the institution section. Then, type “nuclear engineering” into the search bar. You may narrow your search further by program level (master's or doctorate). This is the quickest way to find the appropriate application.
- Three letters of recommendation: The department encourages applicants to utilize the electronic letter of recommendation system available through the EngCAS portal.
- You must request three (3) recommendations/evaluations before you are able to submit your application.
- Recommendation/evaluation letters are not required to be received at the time of the application in order for you to be allowed to submit your application. You can track the progress of your recommendation letter requests in EngCAS. You can also email your recommenders a reminder through EngCAS, or choose to send a request to another recommender. If a recommender is having trouble receiving your email request from EngCAS for recommendation, please ask your recommender to login using the EngCAS portal.
- Statement of purpose: Applicants are encouraged to write about the following areas:
- Academic and Professional Preparation
- Research Area of Interest (Please refer to our five different focus areas)
- Post-Graduate Plans
- Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for application review purposes. Any applicant who provides unofficial transcripts and is admitted will be required to submit official transcripts.
- Once all institutions attended have been entered in the Academic History: Colleges Attended section of the application, upload unofficial copies of all transcripts. International applicants do not need to request a WES evaluation.
- Fees: You will be required to pay the EngineeringCAS processing fee of $58 in addition to the Texas A&M University application fee of $65 for domestic applicants, or $90 for international applicants.
- International applicants: View the language requirements page for information on TOEFL or IELTS submission requirements, if applicable.
- Resume or CV (OPTIONAL): Applicants may either submit a résumé or curriculum vita to further support their application.
