Electric Boat Racing Team

The Electric Boat Team provides members with hands-on engineering experience in the field of ocean engineering. Each year, we design, model, and fabricate an electric boat from the ground up to compete in the Promoting Electric Propulsion (PEP) Competition. Currently, our team is launching a two-year build plan for a manned hull, while also continuing to refine and enhance our latest remote-controlled boat.

Human Powered Submarine (HPS)

The Human Powered Submarine Team designs, builds, and tests submarines to compete in either the International Submarine Race in Maryland or in the European International Submarine Races in the UK, home to the largest freshwater testing basin in Europe! These competitions offer exciting travel opportunities and hands-on experience.

Team members can get involved in the full design and fabrication process, earn scuba certification, and participate in underwater testing and races. Whether you’re experienced or brand new, everyone is welcome. We aim to foster a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment for all.

The human-powered submarine meets Tuesdays from 6-7 pm and Sundays from 2-4 pm to design and build a submarine that can house a scuba diver who controls and powers it. The team is currently working through the build process to compete in June.

Marine Technology Society and Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (MTS-SNAME)

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers' goal is to advance the state of the art, to allow the exchange of information and ideas, to disseminate results of research, experience and information among its members, to encourage and sponsor such research, to cooperate with educational institutions, and to promote the professional integrity and status of the members.

The Marine Technology Society's goal is to disseminate marine science and technical knowledge, to promote and support education for marine scientists, engineers and technicians, to advance the development of tools required to explore, study and exploit the oceans, and to provide services that create a broader understanding of the relevance of the marine sciences to other technologies, arts and human affairs.

Ocean Robotics Club

The Ocean Robotics club is about the research of both remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles. The main goal of the club is to have an operational underwater robot that can compete in local/international competitions. To reach this main goal, we have smaller goals leading up, as provided by the faculty adviser. Understanding how everything works together for the robot to function is incredibly important for the club. Little to no experience is required, as we are all learning along the way!

Society for Underwater Technology (SUT)

SUT hosts monthly meetings that are free to join and listen to Industry Professionals giving seminars relating to their work and area of expertise. These events are also avenues to explore and grow your network to connect with Practicing Engineers and kickstart your career! We also host other events to learn more about other technologies and to gain real-world experience with practicing and using these technologies in controlled environments.

For more information, contact President Andrew Tucker at tuckeran@tamu.edu  or visit our SUT website.
