The Meloy Innovators grant supports students pursuing entrepreneurial ideas that will drive commercialization opportunities in the future. We are passionate about "learning by doing" and understand that to realize your vision, you need to spend money that you may not have readily available. The Meloy Innovators grant seeks to support students who want to take the next step in their journey, whether it involves purchasing materials to develop a prototype, hiring a graphic designer to help with an app or website design, and/or participating in workshops or conferences with like-minded entrepreneurs. Each winner will also have access to a mentor with relevant skills and experience. While not required, we believe this mentorship optimizes your chances for success.
Award
The Meloy Engineering Innovators award is $2,500. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis during the school year, and we anticipate several awards being dispersed each month.
How it Works
- We use a rolling application process, therefore, applications are always open during the school year.
- Applications will never close, and we will review applications shortly after receipt.
- Awards will be announced by email as soon as possible. Applications that do not receive an award will receive feedback to help with resubmission (if desired).
- We will host a recognition event each semester, and they will be announced as scheduled.
- We may review applications during the summer, but do not expect award notifications outside of the calendar school year.
Selection Criteria
- You have a well-articulated idea, innovation, or invention.
- You have a clear, detailed plan for how you would use the award.
- You have researched and described the costs for the goods/services you intend to procure.
- Co-founders and teammates provide the skills and labor needed for the work. In other words, this award is not targeted as helping you hire a software engineer - find a technical co-founder to do this for free.
- If you have a software project or startup, you have applied for and exhausted free/low cost software and computing resources (see below for examples).
- Participation in the Meloy Engineering Incubator (preferred).
Qualifications
- Applicants must be full-time Texas A&M University College of Engineering students in good standing.
- A member of your team has not already received an award (i.e., one award per team) for the same milestone or project phase.
- If you have previously received a Meloy Innovators award, we ask that you review your progress with your assigned mentor before applying for a subsequent award.
Application
- Name and contact information.
- Brief description of your innovation.
- List team members working with you on the project.
- Plans for your innovation
- List/description of what goods/services you want to procure.
- Discussion of your involvement with the Meloy Engineering Incubator.
- Additional information you would like to be considered.
