Preparing for the Math Placement Exam before your scheduled testing date
The Math Placement Exam (MPE) ensures you are placed in the math course that best matches your current skills, giving you the support you need to succeed in your academic journey. By assessing your strengths in key topics, the MPE helps you start at the right level, setting you up for confidence and achievement in future math, science, and engineering courses. Completing the MPE before your New Student Conference is essential to make sure you're prepared to register for classes that fit your abilities and goals.
The MPE will test your knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, logarithms, exponentials, etc. While the exam does not test your calculus knowledge, you should take it seriously and prepare for it well ahead of your scheduled testing date (i.e., review material, self-study and take practice exams).
In preparation for the MPE, you should take the MPE Practice Test for MATH 151. You can also visit our Virtual Math Learning Center to access additional study guides, handouts and video libraries. This is the perfect way to brush up on math concepts that you haven’t seen in a while.
The math department also provides a “pencil and paper” MPE Practice Test for MATH 147/151/171 and MPE Practice Test Solutions for your use.
Note:
- Scores earned on the online proctored exam will be used to place new students in the appropriate level math course.
- Calculators are not allowed during the exam.
