Learn more about the materials science and engineering Materials Design Capstone Project to match the opportunity that's right for you.

Extreme conditions push materials to their limits. Examples of extreme conditions include temperatures near melting, mechanical and thermal shock loadings, high energy particle irradiation, exposure to reactive chemicals and gases, or deformation to extreme strains. Developing materials that survive under such conditions and perform to desired specifications is a grand challenge. It is also a key enabler of future technologies, such as hypersonic flight, blast-resistant infrastructure, commercial fusion reactors, sustainable waste processing, and environmentally friendly production. MSEN faculty are at the forefront of science and engineering in materials under extreme conditions.
