The Master of Engineering (MEng) degree is practice oriented. Although most of the courses on the degree plan are expected to be in engineering or scientific disciplines, you may select other courses from different fields that reflect your individual interests and career goals.
Include a minimum of 32 credit hours in your degree plan. This is a mix of classes and Professional Study hours. (Your committee/advisor can require more).
Minimum course requirement for the master's degree is 8 to 10 courses (24-30 credit hours) with at least 6 of these courses being in PETE. (Excludes PETE 685 hours)
You may take up to 2 courses from outside the department if advised by the chair of your committee. These courses must be related to your research area.
Take at least 3 of the core courses (required for students without an undergraduate petroleum engineering degree).
Must register for 2 concurrences of PETE 681 seminar (zero credit). These are to be taken during the first and second semesters of registration.
Must take PETE 614 Student Paper Contest (zero credit), participate once during master's degree program and list the course on the degree plan.
Must take 3 hours of PETE 692 for credit for the engineering project.
Select the chairman of your committee before the start of the second semester. Agree on at least 3 committee members to be added, including 1 outside of the department. Your chair will count as one of these members.
File a degree plan before the beginning of your second semester but by no means later than 90 days before your final oral examination.
You must have an average GPR of 3.0 for all courses on your degree plan and overall before you can schedule your final exam.
Report Completion Requirements
Write your independent project (PETE 692 as a professional journal paper) reports involving petroleum engineering subject matter.
Schedule your final examination (final defense) via ARCS at least two weeks prior to exam date and send a copy of your report to your committee.
You must complete all degree requirements within seven years.
Descriptions and requirements for the Master of Engineering degree can be found in the Texas A&M Graduate Catalog. A feature of the Standard MEng degree is that all requirements for this degree can be satisfied through the Online Learning Program.
