The Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University is one of the largest, fully accredited programs in the country. The department features a diverse faculty that is committed to excellence in education and to expanding the boundaries of knowledge and understanding of chemical and biological systems through research. The department values high-quality students, evidenced in part by an average SAT score that is higher than the average university score. In addition, 20 percent of the incoming freshman class holds National Merit standing.
The department typically graduates about 130 students a year who earn a bachelor of science degree and receive starting salaries that average $72,500/year. Graduates work in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical and microelectronic industries or transition to graduate or professional schools to become lawyers, physicians and researchers.
Before graduating, students have the opportunity to become involved in a number of professional and recreational activities. Students who participate in the co-op and intern programs get to apply their knowledge to real industrial problems. What's more, the spirit and traditions of Texas A&M tie students together with a lifelong bond of camaraderie.
