Mission and Vision Statement
The mission and vision of the Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology Program at Texas A&M University is to:
1. Provide a high-quality, application-oriented education producing professionals who can effectively contribute to leadership, the advancement of manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology, and improved performance of industrial endeavors
2. Conduct applied research and develop new multidisciplinary technology that mutually benefits the university and its industrial, governmental, and academic collaborators
3. Provide service and leadership in the promotion and advancement of the university and the profession
4. Maintain a nationally recognized program through excellence in hands-on education, applied research, and service
Program Educational Objectives
The Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology program prepares students who during the first few years after graduation can:
- Advance successfully manufacturing and mechanical technical knowledge, problem solving skills, and implementation skills for careers in design, installation, operations, technical sales, or service functions in industry.
- Provide increasing level of leadership and responsibility.
- Continue engaging in sustainable productivity in a dynamic work environment.
Student Outcomes
At the time of graduation, a Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology student has:
- an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
- an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
- an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
