Online Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering

Requirements

• Course Requirements
  • Include a minimum of 30 credit hours in your degree plan. This is a mix of classes and research hours. Your committee/advisor can require more. 
  • Minimum course requirement for the master's degree is 8 courses (24 credit hours) with at least 6 of these courses being in PETE. (Excludes PETE 685 hours). 
  • Must include a minimum of 2 courses from outside the department in the degree plan. These courses must be related to your research area. 
  • Take at least 3 of the core courses (required for students without an undergraduate petroleum engineering degree. 
  • Must register for 2 occurrences of PETE 681 seminar (zero credit). These are to be taken during the first and second semesters of registration. 
  • Must take PETE 614 Student Paper Contest (zero credit), participate once during the course of the master's degree and list the course on the degree plan. 
  • Must take PETE 691 (research hours) to complete the required credit hours. Minimum of 1 hour is required. 
  • Select the chairman of your committee before the start of the second semester. Agree on at least 3 committee members to be added, including one outside of the department. Your chair counts as one of these. 
  • File a degree plan before the beginning of your second semester, but by no means later than 90 days before your final oral examination. 
  • You must have an average GPR of 3.0 for all courses on your degree plan and overall before you can schedule your final exam. 
• Thesis Completion
  • Submit your thesis proposal via ARCS at least one semester before scheduling your final examination. 
  • Schedule your final examination (final defense) via ARCS at least two weeks prior to exam date and send a copy of your thesis to your committee. 
  • Submit and clear your thesis with Thesis Clerk. 
  • Complete all requirements within 7 years.
