All Master of Industrial Distribution (MID) students are required to complete a 9-month Capstone Project. Most students will design and conduct a research/consulting project for their company. The project must include a Return-On-Investment component to show the value of the solution/recommendations developed.

The Capstone Project, has provided me with the foundation for the implementation of cutting-edge concepts, which will lead to industry leading best practices within my organization. The capstone project alone will have a positive impact of over $1.5M.

How to Ensure a Successful Capstone Project

Your Capstone Project should involve meaningful data collection and analysis. Recommendations should be based on the analysis.

The goal of the project for you, the student, is to develop deep expertise in a specific area and understand a systematic problem-solving approach. The goal of the project for your company is to explore improvement areas that have a return on investment (ROI) if implemented.

Your project's scope should be narrow enough to complete in about six to eight months:

  • Choose a project for your company that is either business development or operational improvement.
    • Projects can be in any functional area, including sales, operations, finance, HR, and IT.
  • Choose 2-4 steering committee members from your company in addition to your faculty advisor.
  • Calculate the cost of implementing the project and potential benefits to arrive at an ROI.
You don't have to implement the project during your time in the Master of Industrial Distribution (MID) Program, but a proof-of-concept or trial is encouraged.

The Master of Industrial Distribution (MID) program at Texas A&M University includes a Capstone Project that enables students to apply their learning in real-world scenarios. This helps students develop skills and gain credibility while benefiting their employers.

The end result of MID Capstone Projects is a high-value solution that can be implemented at companies immediately.
