The Admission Process Explained

1. EngineeringCAS Admission applications are exported.

   1. Our graduate office exports all applicant information from WebAdMIT. WebAdMIT is the interface that our graduate office uses to communicate with all applicants and to export admission applications from EngineeringCAS for review. Exported applications are separated into batches and assigned to different rounds. Each applicant is then assigned to different members on our application review team. We assign more than one member per application to ensure a diverse perspective in our selection process.

2. Rounds for application review commence.

   1. Applicants who are competitive and have strong application packages are assigned the local status of “Final Admit for Admission.” Applicants who are NOT competitive and do NOT have strong application packages are assigned the local status of “Final Deny for Admission.” Applicants granted either of these designations are notified immediately via email. The email will come from the email address donotreply@webadmit.org and will say it is from Texas A&M University. The email originates from our department’s graduate office. Do NOT email the Office of Admissions in regard to this email. They are not the sender.
   2. Applicants who are not as competitive as others in their batch or round, but are still good candidates, get pushed to the next round. Applicants who fall into this category will continue to get pushed to the next round until they are assigned the local status of “Final Admit for Admission,” “Final Deny for Admission” or until all seats are filled. If they were not competitive enough to earn the local status of “Final Admit for Admission” by the time all seats are filled, they are automatically assigned the local status of “Final Deny for Admission.”
      
      This part of the process can take a long time and is essentially a waiting period for our applicants. We do not provide status updates during this period because it is understood that if you have a status of complete in EngineeringCAS and we have started our review process that you will fall into one of the following scenarios:
      1. Your application is currently under its first review in one of our rounds.
      2. Your application has not undergone its first review and is waiting to be reviewed in its assigned admission review round, i.e., round two, round three, etc.
      3. Your application has been reviewed but has been passed on to the next round for additional review. An applicant can be passed on for additional review several times.
      4. If your admission application is not strong enough the first time it is reviewed and is deemed to be a low competitive application, it will get denied, and you will get notified of this decision as soon as it is made.
      5. If your admission is strong enough the first time it is reviewed, it will be given the local status “Final Admit for Admission." When this happens, you will be notified of this decision as soon as it is made. See number 2a in this list for more details.
         
         No news or communication from us at minimum means you have not been denied admission and are still being considered. We know waiting for a decision is hard, and we continually work toward getting through all applications as quickly as possible without neglecting the attention to detail and the quality of attention that each application deserves.

3. The department level review process ends.

   1. The department level review process ends when our admissions review team has assigned a local status of “Final Admit for Admission” or “Final Deny for Admission” to all complete applications in EngineeringCAS.
   2. All applications that have been assigned the local status of “Final Admit for Admission” or “Final Deny for Admission” are automatically pulled into the Office of Admission’s database. It can take 24-48 hours for an application to be fully loaded and populated in the database. Once the upload is complete, the Office of Admissions will commence their final review of each application that has been populated with a “Final Admit for Admission.” Unless the Office of Admissions finds an error or inaccurate information in the application that disqualifies you, you should be admitted. The Office of Admissions will verify that all documents and transcripts in the admission application package are correct and legitimate. This can take up to 2-3 weeks, depending on how quickly you provide any missing documentation or official transcripts.

4. Your official letter of admission arrives.

   1. Once all official documents have been received and all information has been verified by the Office of Admissions, you will be issued an official letter of admission.
   2. We know you are excited and eager to receive your official letter of admission, but we ask you to NOT contact the Office of Admissions about your letter. They process admissions letters for the entire university and stay quite busy and contacting them will only take time away from reviewing your application. As soon as your admission file is complete, they will issue your letter.

5. Accept or deny your admission.

   1. The final step of the admission process is for you to either accept or deny your admission offer in your Howdy Portal.
