Howdy and welcome to the graduate program in mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University. Our vision is to be the premier graduate program based on the societal and professional impact of our students, graduates, and faculty. This impact is realized in many ways including research and discovery of new knowledge; technology creation and innovation; and industry, professional, community and public leadership.

The J. Mike Walker '66 Department of Mechanical Engineering has research expertise in the fundamental areas of controls; design and computer-aided engineering; dynamics, vibrations, and acoustics; energy conversion and combustion; fluid mechanics; heat transfer and thermodynamics; materials; and solid mechanics. We extend these fundamental fields to applications in the areas of rotating machinery; advanced manufacturing; biomechanics and human health; energy and environment; robotics and mechatronics; and micro and nano-systems.

Our graduate program is anchored by a team of outstanding core tenured or tenure-track faculty. Our faculty include members of the National Academy of Engineering, Presidential Early Career Award winners, and innovators who are known globally for their research and teaching expertise. These faculty are continually developing new paths of research endeavors and creating new graduate classes founded on these research results, thus positioning graduate instruction on the edge of discovery. In addition, we have over a dozen additional faculty affiliated with our program that can guide students through their research experience.

Our program enrollment is about half at the doctoral and half at the masters level. Mechanical engineering is consistently ranked highly by different agencies such as US News and World Report. Students in our program have significant flexibility in how they build their technical and professional expertise. Our graduates are well-placed in industry, research laboratories and academia around the world.
