The Department of Biomedical Engineering has exceptional strengths in cancer engineering, regenerative engineering, pediatric technologies, cardiovascular engineering, engineering for accessible health care, and biomedical engineering education.

Toward impacting health outcomes, a trademark of our research is the focus on translation to the clinic and entrepreneurship. BME at Texas A&M University is producing the next generation of biomedical engineers, developing new technologies and new jobs, and achieving revolutionary advancements for the future of health care. We are committed to solving the world’s greatest health problems through the exploration of new ideas, integrated research and innovation.

Our 2022-27 strategic objectives center on becoming a top-10 internationally-recognized program providing a high quality curriculum to further strengthen our graduate and undergraduate programs.

2022-27 Strategic Plan Objectives

  1. To achieve an internationally-recognized research program in strategically targeted areas while leveraging existing strengths.
  2. Establish a long-term, multi-faceted collaboration with the College of Veterinary Medicine.
  3. To enhance the graduate program to be a top 10 biomedical engineering program among public institutions.
  4. To expand and enhance the curriculum and student body to strengthen the undergraduate program to be a top 10 biomedical engineering program among public institutions.
  5. To have a nationally-recognized BME design program.
  6. To recruit, integrate, and retain accomplished faculty and staff who will bring leadership in research and teaching.
  7. To strengthen the reputation of the department by consistently promoting the successes of our faculty and students to external audiences.
  8. To establish an endowment at a level consistent with our peer departments.
