Tips for Applying

When reviewing applications all components of the application are taken into consideration by the admissions committee. However, the below guidelines are examples of the qualities we look for in applicants. Please note that these are not required and applicants missing one or more of these criteria will still be evaluated for admission.

  1. Recommended GPA of 3.5 or higher
  2. Statement of purpose, which should include the following information:
    1. A brief description of you, your background, and interest in biomedical engineering
    2. An explanation as to your motivation for selecting Texas A&M University and your chosen degree program
    3. The names of specific faculty you are interested in working with and why (M.S. and Ph.D. only)
    4. Any other information you think will assist our admissions committee in reviewing your application
  3. Professional resume or CV, which should concisely communicate the remaining criteria on which you will be evaluated, including:
    1. Specific coursework completed
    2. Engineering industry or professional experience
    3. Research experience
    4. Professional service (e.g. participation and/or leadership in professional organizations and STEM outreach programs, teaching/mentoring experience)
    5. Professional communications (e.g. posters, conference presentations, authorship on publications, proceedings, books and patent applications)
    6. Awards and honors

Students who wish to transfer into the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program from another graduate program within Texas A&M University should read over the department's transfer policy.

Review Process

Admission applications to a degree program are evaluated by the BME Graduate Program Committee appointed by the department head. The committee uses a student information database to evaluate all materials provided by applicants. After committee review, the applicant is either granted or denied admission via a voting process. Based on the outcome of the vote, all admitted applicants will be notified via electronic communication from the department. The Texas A&M University Office of Admissions will communicate the official decision to the applicant.
