What is the difference between a M.S. degree and M.Eng?
Traditionally, M.S. programs are research-based degrees while the M.Eng. degree is focused on professional development and is considered a non-research-based program. Both programs require 30 hours of coursework; however, M.Eng students complete more traditional, classroom courses than their M.S. student counterparts. What is the difference between a 64-hour and a 96-hour Ph.D.?
The 96-hour Ph.D. is for students attaining their Ph.D. immediately following the completion of a bachelor’s degree. The 64-hour Ph.D. is for students who have obtained a master’s degree from an accredited institution. Are any of your programs available online?
Currently, none of our biomedical engineering programs are offered in a distance education format. There may be select classes offered with an online offering; however, this is individual to that specific course. How many students do you admit each year?
We do not have a set number of students that we accept each semester, although we typically accept only 10-15% of applicants each year. The number may vary because the number of students we accept is largely dependent on the amount of available faculty funding. Students accepted to our Ph.D. program are typically admitted with a fellowship or research assistantship of at least $31,500/year for four years, plus tuition, allowable fees and health insurance. What is the cost of attendance for your program?
The University has a helpful tuition calculator that provides general information to members of the public. This portal provides a rough estimated cost of attendance. Please remember that each student situation is unique and additional tuition/fees may apply.

How do I submit my application documents?
All applications are submitted through the EngineeringCAS portal. Please review the departmental Graduate Admissions page for more details and instructions on how to apply to our program. Applications typically open during the fall semester for the next academic year. How do I request a fee waiver?
The department provides limited fee waivers (i.e. coupon codes) to applicants. Fee waivers are provided by individual faculty to selected students whom they intend to recruit into their lab program. If you are interested in a fee waiver, please reach out to your intended faculty supervisor and inquire as to the availability of a waiver.I have a bachelor’s degree that is not engineering; am I eligible to apply? What courses are required?
While most students have an engineering background of some kind, all students are welcome to apply. If admitted, leveling courses may be required. The final list of required courses will be determined by the student's committee chair and approved by the Director of the Graduate Program. It is not mandatory to complete leveling courses before applying or being accepted into the program. Typically leveling courses cannot be counted on a BME student’s formal degree plan and are considered additional coursework outside the program requirements. These are not required to be completed prior to entering the program. The exact leveling courses will be finalized by the committee chair. You can find further explanation and a list of leveling courses here.Is a resume required? What do I need to include in my resume?
The submission of a resume is required for the completion of your application. You may turn in your resume through your application portal in EngineeringCAS . Our Graduate Committee will be looking for research projects, internship/work experience, publications, conference presentations/proceedings and leadership roles. What are your recommended scores for the GRE and GPA?
The GRE is no longer a requirement for our program. You may self-report your general Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) test scores (subject tests not required) in the Quadrant 2 Academic History section of the application. You may also upload copies of your unofficial test score reports in the Quadrant 4 Program section under Documents in the application. The recommended Quantitative GRE score is 158 or higher and our recommended GPA is 3.5 or higher. If you do not meet these recommendations, please do not be discouraged to apply to our program. Our faculty will take all aspects of each application into consideration.
I finished my application, when will I hear back?
There is not an official time frame in which applications are reviewed after they are completed. The reviewing of applications, especially before deadlines, can be a lengthy process. Our faculty and staff work very hard to process applications as quickly as we can after they are submitted. Once a decision has been made about your application you will hear from either the Department of Biomedical Engineering or Texas A&M Office of Admissions. You are also welcome to email bmengradadvising@tamu.edu with your name and UIN to request an update on the status of your application. My application may not be complete by the deadline date. Will it automatically be denied?
No. The Department does not automatically deny any candidate. The application portal will be closed on the date listed as the application deadline and applicants will not be able to make any changes to their application. These applications will be marked Incomplete and, typically, will not be considered for review. If you would like to request an extension of the deadline for your application, you will need to submit an email request to bmengradadvising@tamu.edu and the graduate advising office will review your request. Once a decision has been made, the applicant will be notified. The applications we receive are carefully reviewed, and admission decisions are then made by careful consideration of the applicant pool. Each year we receive many more high-quality applications than our program can accept. This means that some very qualified students must be denied admission. When reviewing applications, our department looks at GPA, universities you attended, statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and resume/relevant previous experience. Therefore, there is no one particular aspect of your application that will prevent an applicant from being admitted to our program.
I am reapplying to the program. Do I have to resubmit everything?
A new application, application fee and statement of purpose are required. It is also suggested that you submit any updated materials such as transcripts or resumes that will further enhance your application. We expect that you have been improving your experience or education since your last application. Finally, letters of recommendation submitted within one year of reapplying can be used, but new letters are also encouraged.May I apply as a non-degree seeking student?
No. The department does not currently accept non-degree seeking students at the graduate level at this time.

The priority deadline for funding is December 1.What does the funding package look like for your program?

Masters level students can be considered for assistantships at any point in their degree, but are considered self-funded and typically not provided a funding package upon admission. How and when will I know if I have received financial assistance from the Department or from the University?
The department sends every Ph.D. student a funding offer letter upon admission. If a faculty has chosen to provide funding to a M.S. or M.Eng. student, those details will also be sent at the time of admission. For details about university-level financial aid, please visit the Scholarships and Financial Aid website. If a student is awarded financial aid, details can be found online by navigating to the Financial Aid Portal card in Howdy.
