First Year Undergraduate Curriculum
The freshman year curriculum is identical for most engineering undergraduate degree programs. Undergraduate students are admitted to the Texas A&M University College of Engineering with a preference for the major noted on their admissions application and follow the same first-year engineering curriculum. The Entry to a Major process is designed for students to take ownership of their future to identify at least three majors that are a good match for their career goals and academic performance.
Earn This Degree in Galveston
This degree is offered fully at both our College Station and Galveston campuses. Students at our Galveston campus experience the same quality education, earn the same Aggie ring, and join the same Aggie Network as students in College Station.
The computer science curriculum is designed to prepare students to enter the rapidly expanding field of computing. It is based upon the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineer Computer Society and the Association for Computing Machinery recommendations for curricula and courses. The four-year undergraduate curriculum in computer science includes a sound preparation in science, mathematics, English, statistics and computing. Students majoring in computer science at Texas A&M will take a 12-hour area of concentration in another department. Electives are available in the areas of algorithms, languages and computability, software systems, networking, computer systems and architecture, artificial intelligence and cognitive modeling, vision, graphics and robotics, and computational science and engineering. Advanced undergraduates may take graduate courses in these areas.
Our mission is to prepare intellectual, professional and ethical graduates capable of meeting challenges in the field of computer science and to coordinate with other parts of the university to facilitate the effective use of educational resources, including courses.
