Overview
The mission of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering is to develop the human and intellectual resources needed to meet the future technological challenges in the field of computing. This includes developing computer scientists and computer engineers for positions of leadership in industry, government and academia. It also means performing basic, applied and multidisciplinary research as well as coordinating and cooperating with other parts of The Texas A&M University System to enhance the effectiveness of educational resources. Likewise, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering provides the intellectual leadership and technology in the computing field required by the university, the state and the nation.

Current High School or College Transfer Students - Prospective Student Group Sessions
The computer science and engineering advising office offers prospective student group sessions throughout the year. For more information, visit our prospective student resources page.
Change of Major to Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Computing
A request for a change of major to computer science (BS-CPSC), computer engineering–CS track (BS-CECN) and computing (BA-COMP) need to be submitted via Howdy. You will find links to submit requests for a change of major under My Records at the bottom left of the page. Submission deadlines are early in the semester and decisions are made after semester grades are posted. See the section on change of major on the undergraduate studies page for additional details.
We recommend that students interested in a change of major review the general information that we provide for undergraduate transfers.
Undergraduates Enrolling for Graduate Courses
Undergraduates wishing to apply to take a graduate CSCE course should see our information and application form. Please complete the required information by the end of preregistration for full consideration. Department policy is that CSCE 315 should be completed before graduate courses are taken.
Some students are eligible to take up to three specified graduate courses on Fasttrack, which provides credit for both graduate and undergraduate course. If you are interested, see the information about our Fast Track program.
Students wishing to take a graduate class in another department first should obtain permission from that department’s advising office. If their advising office agrees, the student should obtain signatures from the course’s instructor and from that department's college on the university's form. The form should then be turned in to our office in EABA 100C. We will obtain the needed approvals from the CSCE department and the College of Engineering.
Research and Independent Study Courses (CSCE 291, 491 and 485)
- Information about registering for independent study courses in the CSCE department may be found in our procedures document. Registration for these courses requires completion of a petition. To prepare the petition, please complete the form and submit it to the CSCE undergraduate advising office.
