Raw data carries little value until it is properly structured, analyzed, and interpreted. Data engineering addresses this need directly: it is an emerging field concerned with transforming data into contextual information through quantitative and computational methods, enabling sound decision-making within complex systems.
Coursework prepares students to handle, manipulate, mine, visualize, and store data, then apply those methods to problems drawn from sectors such as energy, manufacturing, healthcare, and infrastructure — domains where decisions must often be made under uncertainty and without a predetermined solution.
The program's capstone experience spans two full semesters. Students work in teams on projects sponsored by industry partners, applying classroom methods to problems those companies are currently facing, and gain experience translating technical analysis into practical recommendations.
